Betenda bridge

Wonders

Oyace

The power of the erosive action of the waters of the buthier is evident in the deep gorge of the betenda, located 200 m. below the tornalla.
The melt waters of the grandes murailles glacier, with a substantial contribution of numerous other minor glacial streams, have dug a narrow gorge 54 m deep. Since time immemorial the natural phenomenon has taken the name of betenda, italianization perhaps of bétein, as a tribute to the daring suitor of the lady of the castle of oyace. legend has it that bétein made the leap from one bank to the other to escape capture. the bridge that currently connects the two banks of the buthier is made of masonry and was built in 1688. when you lean on the parapet of the bridge, a sense of bewilderment assails the visitor: the narrow chasm seems to lead directly into the bowels of the earth.
