Each February a colourful and mysterious carnival enlivens the various villages of the Coumba Freida. Landzette folk groups, attired in elaborate velvet costumes embellished with thousands of hand-sewn beads, mirrors and ribbons parade and dance through the village streets of the Great St Bernard Valley and the Valpelline. Traditionally, fellow villagers offer the revellers refreshments during celebrations which end in evening dances open to locals and tourists.
