Tornalla Manor towering above dark forests and foamy
waters. An octagonal tower that, according to tradition,
was built by the Saracens. The octagonal tower of Oyace Castle stands on an almost isolated hilltop between the stream and the mountain. The tower has an internal diameter of 3.50 metres and walls almost 2 metres thick, with an external diameter of 7.50 metres. It is 11.70 metres high and its entrance door is situated at a considerable height above the surrounding terrain. Tornalla first belonged to the unspecified lords of Oyace.
Amadeus IV, Count of Savoy, son of Thomas I, had the castle dismantled due to the alleged iniquity of the lord of Oyace. The dismantling of Tornalla took place roughly between 1233 and 1253. Between this date and 1287,
the barons of Quart extended their jurisdiction over the
upper Valpelline.
